For the seventh edition of the “Cities of Honey” competition, Saint-Laurent-du-Var is applying to obtain the label. This event is organized by the Eco Mayors, in partnership with the National Union of French Beekeeping.

The award ceremony took place on Thursday, September 8th, as part of the 12th edition of the National Biodiversity Conference, with no less than 1,200 participants. The quality of the nectar and the actions taken for biodiversity allowed the commune to reach the 3rd place on the podium (tied).

Seven beehives have been installed in the Laurentian territory since 2018. The bee population can reach up to 30,000 individuals during the season. The city of Saint-Laurent-du-Var is committed to undertaking actions to protect biodiversity. For instance:

  • Urban biodiversity, by sowing flowering grass, increasing flowering, and tolerating wild plants.
  • Raising public awareness of these issues and the protection of living things through various activities throughout the year.

Approximately 60 kg of honey were harvested at the main apiary this August. You can meet the Green Spaces staff on September 25 during the Terroir Festival at a tasting and presentation stand.
