Sportel: when sports keep generating more and more money

Latest News

For its 29th year, Sportel opened its doors at the Grimaldi Forum in Monaco. No fewer than 200 exhibitors were present to discuss the sports economy in all its forms.

Sportel is now considered the largest trade show dedicated to sports rights and business in the world. Each year, dozens of contracts representing several hundred million euros are negotiated in just three days. The biggest television channels, radio stations, and companies related to broadcasting and the media coverage of sports are present. Their goal is to discuss the future of our favorite sports broadcasts. It’s an opportunity to present innovations that will soon improve the quality of sports programs. The arrival of some 3,000 expected visitors to the event allows professionals to gain feedback in the field of sports products and events, helping to better understand how the consumer should be placed at the center of the broadcasting system.

Social Media as “Guest Star”

For the first time, Sportel has reserved several stands for social media. Have Facebook and Twitter decided to enter the battle for TV rights? “New technologies are evolving very quickly, which means that we are already working on projects for next year, hence the presence of these new media at the event,” explains Laurent Puons, CEO of Monaco Mediax, the company organizing the event.

Until now, the exclusive property of the small screen, the broadcasting of sports events is increasingly opening up to computers, tablets, and smartphones, the latter representing a huge market. For Laurent Puons, “the future is not TF1.” It is, therefore, time to turn to digital broadcasting.
