Victorious against US Carcassonne (38-10) at home, Nice climbs up the ranking and surpasses its opponent of the evening.
Stade Niçois played its first home match of the season. They were up against the second team in this national pool, US Carcassonne. The Niçois team, being fifth, was determined to continue their momentum and get closer to the top of the table. For this first match, supporters showed up in an almost full Arboras stadium. On the field, it was the visitors who struck first, in the fourth minute of play through Clément Egiziano. But the locals quickly reacted and set a strong pace.
The Nice forwards made the difference and pushed Carcassonne into making many errors. After three successful penalties by center Romain Riguet, the Niçois took the lead in the 20th minute. Romain Riguet’s teammates would score a try that gave them a comfortable lead. At the end of a nice movement, Simon Delas grounded the ball in the try zone, and Nice widened the gap. After a penalty from the visitors, the locals led at halftime (16-10).
Nice in control
Right at the beginning of the second half, Nice increased the score with a new penalty from number 12, Romain Riguet. The Reds and Blacks added a few more points to the scoreboard with tries from Louis Suaud and a bit later from Andrzej Charlat. The end of the match was solid, and Carcassonne couldn’t capitalize on their opportunities.
Nice wins (38-10) and temporarily becomes the leader of the pool. Stade Niçois will host the rugby club of Suresnes next Friday, still at home.
