How many times have we complained about motorcycle rodeos that endanger people and deafen with the vroom-vroom of their engines?
Finally, legal provisions have been adopted by the Deputies that allow Mayors, law enforcement, and the judiciary to have at their disposal a text that provides an appropriate criminal response to combat these practices, dangerous for both their perpetrators and pedestrians.
As such, this practice is now punishable by up to one year in prison and a €1,500 fine.
The incitement and organization of urban rodeos will also be punished with up to 2 years in prison and a €30,000 fine. The vehicle involved will be confiscated. Additional penalties may also be imposed, such as a 3-year suspension of the driver’s license or the implementation of community service to raise the offender’s awareness of the dangers of their behavior.
If the Senate adopts the text in the same terms as the National Assembly on July 24, this law can come into effect as early as July 25.
“I hope for the quickest possible enactment of this text. This is desirable because summer is unfortunately a season conducive to these rodeos,” commented Loïc Dombreval, LRM deputy, who has worked hard for this measure.
