For the 14th consecutive year, the County Council will transform the Alpes-Maritimes region into a vast living theatre accessible to everyone. As the leading cultural player in the department, the County Council implements a unique policy that has allowed 500,000 people to access Culture and the Arts for free through the “Summer Evenings,” “06 on Stage,” and “It’s Not Classic” programs.
In this context, Eric Ciotti has confirmed the continuation of the Summer Evenings venture, with more than 430 free performances meeting the audience in 154 municipalities, from June 14 to September 27 this year. Singing, dancing, classical, traditional and contemporary music, jazz, music-hall, cabaret, and storytelling will delight spectators from the coastal communities of the Azurean coast to Mercantour, passing through the upper and middle Nice region.
Among the highlights: for jazz, the Azur Big Band of Nice, Nadiamori, the Nice Jazz Orchestra, the Django Memory Quartet, Frédéric Viale Quartet, the Golden Jazz Band; for classical music, the Nice Philharmonic Orchestra and the Regional Orchestra of Cannes PACA; for theatre, the Birds of Movezogure with “Sam, or the Lost Reflection,” and the popular and Provençal “Fanette” by Yolande Nectoux; the true acrobats of voice Elizabeth Vidal and André Cognet for singing; for contemporary music, Habib Koité and Sashird Lao; for the music hall, Bernard Persia and his orchestra, Cabaret Under the Stars with artists from around the world. Also featured in the Summer Evenings program is the 19th Storytelling Festival, from July 15 to 22, with enchanting performances for young and old in eight municipalities of the Alpes-Maritimes.
Since their creation, the Summer Evenings of the Alpes-Maritimes County Council have experienced ever-increasing success. Last year, more than 250,000 spectators, 50,000 more than in 2007, endorsed the quality and diversity of these evening performances.
