Building on the success of previous years, the General Council of the Alpes-Maritimes has renewed this popular event, accessible to all, with 450 free shows organized from June 11 to September 25, 2011, in 155 municipalities.
Classical, traditional, and contemporary music, jazz, singing, dance, theater, or music hall—every taste will be delighted with the program of this 16th edition, which highlights the department’s artists and creators.
A new week begins for the Summer Evenings with jazz, music hall, and electro-jazz-funk…
La Gosse: August 16 in Valberg, August 17 in La Brigue, and August 21 in Contes, at 9 PM.
La Gosse is the voice of the heart! She’s an angel with her feet on the ground, a tigress with a velvet paw, a warrior of love, a petite woman with immense talent, a singer who shakes things up, breaking taboos with a reassuring smile.
She effortlessly switches from the tragic to the joyful, from the serious to the trivial, so that one never knows, from one song to the next, if she will make us laugh or cry.
Alongside her, Fabrice Gratien, a man of all music, showcases his full talent on the piano, and the connection between the two artists is a crucial ingredient of this magical potion!
Nadiamori: August 17 in La Turbie and August 18 in Puget-Théniers, at 9 PM.
The group Nadiamori presents a concert of electro-jazz-funk music, during which the musicians will perform a repertoire of original compositions written by Amaury Filliard and Nadia Scaillet.
This music, blending jazz and funk influences, is enriched with electronic effects. Besides the pleasure of listening to a group of exceptional artistic and musical quality, no one has ever stayed seated during one of their concerts.
Denia Ridley Quartet: August 16 in Tourrettes-sur-Loup, at 9 PM.
Denia Ridley is a talented and original American singer, who performs with a lot of emotion in an elegant and very bluesy style, covering the greatest classics of the Jazz repertoire reminiscent of Billie Holiday, Ella Fitzgerald, or Carmen McRae.
Denia has been performing in Europe for 10 years, where she has recently decided to settle. For the occasion, she will be accompanied by a trio composed of Eric Alberti on piano, Tony Brayer on drums, and Jack Sewing on double bass.
Cabaret Zinc: August 18 in Saint Martin Vésubie, at 9 PM.
Seven eccentric and quirky characters embody, through songs from the interwar period, madness, freedom of expression, humor, extravagance, and transcend the reality of a world emerging from one disaster only to enter another. They sing in the haze of smoky cabarets. For the time of a tango, let’s listen to their story.
The improbable, unusual, quirky, eloquent “Mouche” family presents the audience with an acidic, exuberant and burlesque show! Thus, through the songs of Chevalier, Mistinguett, Baker… Cabaret Zinc is born.
Luc Ramirez Quintet: August 19 in La Roquette-sur-Var, at 9 PM.
Mexijazz is the result of a perfect cultural, joyful, and festive mix. With the interactive energy of a true stage band, the project created in 2009 brings together 5 musicians around a shared desire to convey the emotions of the stage and sound.
The trumpeter, Luc Ramirez, the initiator of this new style, skillfully combines jazz with traditional Mexican rhythms: bolero, waltz, cha-cha. Mexijazz is the successful fusion of two musical worlds!
Cab Calloway: August 19 in Villeneuve-Loubet, at 9:30 PM, August 20 in Drap, and August 21 in Le Rouret, at 9 PM.
This exceptional show presents the meeting between jazz star Cab Calloway and the mythical Cotton Club, which has hosted, among others, Louis Armstrong, Duke Ellington, Count Basie, Dizzy Gillespie…
In this era of the 1930s, in the United States, it’s the Great Depression; all musicians head to the Mecca of Jazz, namely New York and particularly the famous Cotton Club in Harlem.
