The return phase of the French Pro B table tennis championship began in the best possible way for Nice CPC, who once again defied the odds in their favor last night in Morez, Jura.
Significantly lower in terms of individual rankings, the team from Nice triumphed over the Franc-Comtois with a score of 4 to 0. This success is even more spectacular considering that Cédric Rouleau and Olivier Maero’s men had lost by the same score to this team, which was promoted from National 1, during the first day of the championship on September 13, 2011.
In four and a half months, the team can thus gauge their considerable progress. Solid and showing perfect cohesion, the players from the French Riviera are now playing with full confidence. This was evident last night as they won three of their four matches in the final game, or in other words, in the decisive fifth set, achieving four “upsets” against higher-ranked players.
Noteworthy are the two valuable points won by the Hungarian David Zombori against the Chinese player Chen Jia and the French player Jérôme Bahuaud. Undefeated since December 6, the team from the French Riviera, who already earned an impressive 3-3 draw on January 10 in Argentan, has taken a significant step toward achieving its season-start goal of staying in the league.
Thanks to this fourth victory, they have even moved up to 5th place on their own, just one point behind the duo of TT Saint-Louis and SPO Rouen, who share the 3rd place. The players from Nice are decidedly optimistic about the rest of the season and are eager to return to their Raoul-Dufy hall, especially in front of their audience, for the match against Auch on Tuesday, February 14 at 8 p.m.
