The 2019-2020 season of the Ensemble Baroque de Nice: Italy at the Stand!

Latest News

“The sea unites the continents it separates!” said Olivier Robaut, representing the mayor of Nice. His words perfectly illustrate the 2019-2020 season of the Nice Baroque Ensemble.

Italy at the podium, we have said? Indeed, it is a tour of Italy to the rhythm of Baroque music. Each of the eight concerts represents an Italian city.

We begin our ‘journey’ in Rome on October 11, 2019, to conclude it eight months later in Milan. In between, we will have visited Venice, Mantua, Bergamo, Naples, Verona, and Turin with this concert on March 13, 2020, at the Chapel of the Holy Shroud or the Red Penitents with a tribute to Mary Magdalene.

Mr. Gilbert Bezzina presented to us in the basement area, reminiscent of a Saint Germain des Prés-style cellar, a former banana ripening room, the program which each year for 35 years has demonstrated ever-renewed audacity.

The theme of this season: Italian cities allows both the discovery of Baroque music and its musicians through the cities where they lived. The Baroque period ranges from Monteverdi to the death of Bach in 1750. Eight concerts, eight Fridays, eight months; three locations: three churches: Saint John the Baptist, Saint Francis of Paola, and the Holy Shroud will be the settings for these concerts.

Conferences at the Nucéra Library and films at the Mercury cinema will accompany the concerts.
