After a record participation in 2008 with more than 10,000 registrants, the 2009 edition is gaining increasing success among international runners. This year’s edition records 17% of foreign competitors, accounting for a total of 45 nations. Leading the way, Italy (26%) closely followed by the United Kingdom (24.7%).

The event is expected to gain even more international recognition thanks to a worldwide television broadcast planned on more than forty international channels including: America One (USA), Asia (Sky Network), Spain (Canal +/Sogecable), Finnish Sports Channel (Finland), and Mnt Supersport (South Africa), etc.

A Dream Setting

Nice, Saint-Laurent-du-Var, Cagnes-sur-Mer, Villeneuve-Loubet, Antibes Juan-les-Pins, Vallauris Golfe-Juan, and Cannes… a 100% seaside marathon from the Promenade des Anglais to the Croisette for a legendary route.

A Successful First Edition

In 2008, the 1st Alpes-Maritimes Nice-Cannes Marathon recorded an impressive performance with 10,411 participants. This first edition, with its dream setting, managed to attract runners as well as 30,000 spectators positioned along the route to cheer on the happy participants.

A New Course in 2009

A faster and more enjoyable course in 2009. The route has been slightly adjusted in the town of Villeneuve-Loubet and a few kilometers before reaching Cannes to meet the performance expectations of some and the comfort desires of others.

An Event Focused on Sustainable Development

Minimizing the environmental impact and raising awareness among runners about the ecological cause is the goal of this second edition. The Alpes-Maritimes Nice-Cannes Marathon becomes the Eco-Citizen Marathon in 2009 and adopts an eco-friendly approach: promoting public transport with promotional offers in partnership with Air France and Ter SNCF, raising awareness about carpooling, as well as managing and sorting waste along the route with the establishment of clean zones.

From All Over France

25% of the runners are from the Alpes-Maritimes department. 36% come from the PACA region, 12% from the Ile de France, and 8% from the Rhône-Alpes region. In total, all 97 French departments will once again be represented on November 8th.

Exponential International Mobilization

For this second edition, there is a marked increase in international registrations. 43 nations will be present this year compared to 34 last year. Leading the way is Italy with 26%, followed by the United Kingdom (24.7%), and competitors coming from as far away as Norway, Estonia, and Sierra Leone, specially for this second edition.

A Festive and Musical Route

Throughout the course, from start to finish, animations will set the pace for the runners. Thanks to the mobilization of the 7 municipalities traversed and the General Council of the Alpes-Maritimes, this second edition promises to be even more lively. 30,000 spectators are expected to warmly support the marathoners as they pass.

2010 French Marathon Championships

In 2010, the Alpes-Maritimes Nice-Cannes Marathon will host the French Marathon Championships.
