“La Marche du Roy” is a popular song that, around a powerful chorus and verses describing the carnival atmosphere, unfolds to evoke six “carnivalesque” countries (Colombia, Puerto Rico, Cuba, Brazil, New Orleans, Nice).

This year, music takes a prominent place within the Carnival festivities with the creation of an official piece: “La Marche du Roy.”

Following the competition organized by the City of Nice in the summer of 2021, Jean-Paul Fulconis’s song was selected from over 30 finalists.

In the fall of 2021, the Carnival management entrusted Pierre Bertrand with the artistic direction and production of the song’s recording, thus bringing “La Marche du Roy” to life with the collaboration of Frédéric Magnier. Pierre Bertrand enlisted 34 musicians from the Nice Philharmonic Orchestra for the strings, 11 musicians from the Nice Jazz Orchestra for the brass and rhythm section, 4 singers from Parisian studios, and 30 children from “A chœurs vaillant” directed by Philippe Negrel, along with 60 children from the René Cassin school’s fifth grade, led by Pascal Albin Giordano.

The song was then entrusted to the voice of the young Toulouse native Paloma Pradal, who is currently participating in the 2022 edition of “The Voice” on TF1.
