To pay tribute to the famous actress Grace Kelly, who passed away 40 years ago, the Cinémathèque de Nice Acropolis organized an exceptional screening. Alfred Hitchcock’s “To Catch a Thief,” partially filmed in Nice and the surrounding areas of the Côte d’Azur, was a fitting choice to celebrate the actress’s career.

Grace Kelly starred in no fewer than 11 iconic films, had a prestigious career in Hollywood, and won the Oscar for Best Actress in 1955. She became the Princess of Monaco through her marriage to Rainier III in 1956 and was especially Alfred Hitchcock’s favorite, starring in three films with him (“Dial M for Murder,” “Rear Window,” and “To Catch a Thief”).

“To Catch a Thief” was a very representative choice, having been partially filmed in Nice and across the Côte d’Azur (Cannes, La Turbie, Beausoleil, etc.). Henry-Jean Servat, Municipal Counselor Subdelegate for Cinema, spoke about this touching tribute to the American actress. He highlighted the presence of Prince Albert II of Monaco, Grace Kelly’s son, who was also moved by this event in his mother’s name.

This evening was an opportunity to rediscover this suspense classic. Alfred Hitchcock’s film showcased Grace Kelly, who was in a way with us, thanks to her son’s presence. Additionally, a documentary preceded the film screening, in which actress Brigitte Auber, who also starred alongside Grace Kelly in the Hitchcock film, expressed her thoughts. She sent a short video message in tribute to Grace Kelly, as she was unable to attend the event in person.
