Changes in lifestyles and the desire not to waste one’s life earning it open the field to an ambient hedonism where one has the time and the desire to indulge. According to Mr. Maffesoli, Sociologist, the era of work-progress-reason is dead. Long live the era of the imagination where handmade allows one to imprint oneself on the objects of everyday life and to reappropriate standardized products and overly uniform lifestyles.
Creative hobbies, accessible to all budgets and ages, have become the most contemporary mode of expression of our creativity. Here, one discovers, invents, and reinvents oneself based on exchanges that abolish generational and cultural boundaries.
It is on this credo that the second creative hobbies fair will be held at the Nice Exhibition Palace from September 29 to October 2, 2005. Indeed, creative hobbies have been constantly burgeoning for the past ten years in France to reach a staggering turnover nearing 700 million euros. To stay with the figures, 70% of women to 30% of men routinely indulge in these activities, while under-35s represent nearly half of the amateur creators.
