As rugby union regains popularity in Nice, a former player, Régis Jouve, has organized a rugby sevens tournament to continue the oval adventure.
Régis, can you explain what FSGT rugby is?
In fact, FSGT RUGBY 06 is the opposite of an FFR club. That is, all activities take place during the week, but only on one or two evenings. No more family and professional constraints, you can play rugby in the 06 area without training every evening and without having to play away games every other weekend! Moreover, the license costs 35€ (insurance included) and it is multi-sport! Unlike the FFR, this is more than three times cheaper!
This system, established following the liquidation of the Racing Rugby Club de Nice Côte d’Azur, was hard to integrate into the Nice associative life in terms of sports facilities, but I managed it! From September 2001 to January 2002, I had no field. Then I got a slot on Thursday evenings at the Stade des Arboras and everything started from there.

FLORALIES TOURNAMENT Challenge JOUVE Aimé at Eyragues (13)
Is there an FSGT rugby tournament in the region?
Yes, the FLORALIES TOURNAMENT Challenge JOUVE Aimé, which I created in 2004 in memory of my grandfather, who died that year 10 days before its second edition. It is a Rugby Sevens Tournament that brings together teams from all over France and from all federations, taking place in Eyragues. I organize it with Michel TALLET, Secretary of the RUGBY CLUB EYRAGUAIS, this year it will take place on Saturday, April 29, 2005. Teams such as: TITON’S RUGBY CLUB (IBM Montpellier), ST BERNARD TOULOUSAIN, GAZELEC GIRONDINS, RRCNICE, RRC, LES AMIS D’EYRAGUES, NOVES, MIRAMAS, and many others participate in it. Once arrived, participants don’t use their cars all weekend, everything is done on foot. The third half consists of a round of all players visiting the three bars of the village: La Brivade, Le Torril, and the Café du Commerce! Atmosphere and singing guaranteed.
Finally, what is lacking in Rugby FSGT 06?
We desperately need more infrastructure, which is why the tournament is held in Eyragues, but all associations are at the same level.
We need at least a part-time person to be able to develop all this in the PACA region (Jean Claude POIRIER, co-president of the FSGT, just appointed me responsible) but since I work at Arkopharma, I don’t have the time.
Recognition at the level of the city of Nice and the PACA Region.
We can also say lack of financial means, as we don’t even have enough to buy a tackling bag or a set of jerseys.
