The debate on mandatory vaccination for healthcare workers against Covid-19 has been ongoing for several days, as the Delta variant seems to be gaining ground.


The number of cases is increasing, surpassing the mark of 4,000 daily cases on Wednesday for the first time in nearly a month.

The government has set a goal for at least 80% of healthcare personnel to have received at least one dose of the Covid-19 vaccine by September. The head of state will preside over an exceptional health defense council on Monday to decide, among other things, on mandatory vaccination for healthcare workers.

The Minister of Health, Olivier Véran, and several professional organizations in the sector have expressed their support for “a mandatory vaccination of health professionals” against Covid-19, in a joint text published following a meeting this Wednesday.

The participants “support the mandatory vaccination of health, care, and support professionals against Covid-19 to combat the transmission of the virus and protect those who come into contact with these professionals.”

According to the latest report from Santé publique France, 7,539 people are hospitalized due to Covid-19, a number that has been decreasing for two months, and 997 people with severe forms of the disease are in the hospital (compared to more than 2,500, a month earlier).
