11 tips for a successful forum
1- DEFINE YOUR PROFESSIONAL PROJECT
Define what attracts you, motivates you, and what you would like to do, taking into account your skills and
knowledge. Dig deeper: type of activity, specific sector, profession. Use a sheet and a
pen to list your skills, abilities, and interests at both a professional and personal level.
2- BE READY TO PRESENT YOUR EDUCATION
List your professional and associative experiences, internships, and studies. Be able to
present how they align with your professional project. Continue the list with your
strengths, achievements, skills, and added values, without highlighting your weaknesses. Practice
presenting them as clearly as possible.
3- SET A GOAL
Know precisely what you are looking for: a job, a contact (who, why), information about a
sector (prepare your questions), details about a profession, a professionalization or apprenticeship contract, an internship. Only a visit with a specific objective will
guarantee a beneficial outcome.
4- PREPARE YOUR MEETING WITH THE RECRUITERS PRESENT
Be your best self. Make arrangements in advance to be in shape and prepared on the day
of the forum. Dress appropriately, as recruiters are sensitive. Practice, even simulate
an interview if necessary, writing down the main points of your presentation without memorizing them
as you will need to adapt your discourse to each interlocutor. And remember, you only have
a few minutes to convince the recruiter.
5- READ CAREFULLY
The directory of exhibitors in this folder and check those who interest you. Look up
information on each of them. Ideally, know a minimum about each company you will meet.
6- PRIORITIZE
Head to the booths you have selected first. Note the information exchanged, which you will use to
follow up with your contacts: name, details, impressions and comments, future actions to take,
appointments.
7- BE YOURSELF, BE SPONTANEOUS
8- DON’T HESITATE TO ASK QUESTIONS
Ask recruiters for their opinions and advice, steps to take to further a
proposal for collaboration. If necessary, return to a booth you have already visited to obtain
further clarifications.
9- COMPARE DIFFERENT EMPLOYERS MET
Define what distinguishes them. Evaluate the interest and career advancement possibilities of the positions offered, working
conditions, benefits, and constraints. Make a list of the names and addresses of
the various recruitment managers you’ve given your CV to.
10- ORGANIZE YOURSELF
Methodically follow up with the companies you are keen to apply to and stay available for an interview at their premises.
11- BRING PLENTY OF RESUMES
