It will be built on the city’s port and aims to become a major addition to Nice’s infrastructure and enhance its status as an international tourist destination.
To everyone’s surprise, the Nice Côte d’Azur Metropolis revealed in a statement this Friday what will be the new convention center in Nice.
The permanent structure, covering approximately 10,000 m2, will be built on the Quai Amiral Infernet, replacing the aerial parking. This 2.0 convention center will include several meeting and conference rooms, as well as an auditorium that can accommodate up to 4,000 people.
The building will also feature a 7,000 square meter exhibition space for exhibitions and cultural events. It will offer world-class facilities for corporate events, conferences, exhibitions, and cultural events, while providing a breathtaking view of the Mediterranean Sea.
The convention center building was designed by Japanese architect Tadao Ando, renowned for his innovative use of materials and light. The building will be constructed in a cube shape, with a glass facade to allow panoramic views of the port and the Mediterranean Sea.
The project is expected to cost nearly 90 million euros and will be financed by the UN and the State, which will cover 90% of the cost. The Metropolis is expected to spend only five to six million euros. Construction is slated to begin in the coming months and to be completed in 2025 to host the third United Nations Ocean Conference.
