The new neighborhood of Les Liserons: a large-scale project

The Liserons district, located to the east of Nice, is benefiting for the first time from an urban renewal program. The Métropole Nice Côte d’Azur, in partnership with the National Urban Renewal Agency (ANRU), will invest 66.9 million euros to transform this area and improve the living environment of its residents.

The project, part of the New Urban Renewal Program (NPRU), includes several major interventions on housing and public space. The first significant phase began on January 31, 2025. It involves the demolition of building No. 1 Turin Est, which includes 68 social housing units. This operation marks the start of a profound transformation of the district.

The interventions on housing notably include the demolition of 202 social housing units and their reconstruction off-site. 400 social housing units will be renovated to meet BBC standards. New housing for free access will also be constructed to ensure greater social diversity.

The public space will also undergo significant modifications. The creation of green spaces, playgrounds, and pedestrian pathways will facilitate movement. The transformation of the Turin road into an urban boulevard and the establishment of a new intersection will enhance the district’s accessibility.

A project in consultation with the residents

The renewal of the Liserons district is based on a participatory approach. An urban study, conducted between 2018 and 2019, was initiated to consider the residents’ expectations. Among the expressed priorities were improving mobility, diversifying the housing offer, and highlighting natural spaces. A new multi-association space of 450 m² has also been created, designed in partnership with the Galice association to offer local services and socio-cultural activities.

The project is part of a broader urban renewal strategy in Nice. More than 300 million euros are being mobilized by 2030 for the transformation of several districts. “These efforts are maintained thanks to the New Urban Renewal Program, with the ongoing requalification of the Ariane and Moulins districts and the launch of the Liserons district”, recalls Christian Estrosi, mayor of Nice and president of the Métropole Nice Côte d’Azur.

The transformation of the Liserons will take place over several years, with key stages up to 2030.
