At the Regional Committee for Housing and Accommodation, the Regional Prefect praised the Nice Côte d’Azur Metropolis strategy in favor of acquisition-improvement and elevation operations. This recognition highlights a local commitment in response to the crisis.
Gathered in Marseille, the members of the Regional Committee for Housing and Accommodation acknowledged the ongoing difficulties in the field of housing, especially in the PACA region. Prefect Georges-François Leclerc highlighted the actions undertaken by the Nice Côte d’Azur Metropolis. He emphasized the benefits of acquisition-improvement and elevation operations, which help renovate old or unhealthy housing and prevent urban sprawl.
These operations are part of a desire to optimize existing buildings. This is a significant challenge in a territory subject to geographical constraints, land pressure, and natural risks. As the Organizing Authority for Housing, the Metropolis was selected for the national program ” Engaged Territories for Housing.”
A strategy based on existing structures
Since 2024, the aid granted for rehabilitation operations has been greater than that allocated to new construction. In three years, 510 housing units have been approved under this arrangement. Five buildings were preempted in 2024 to carry out this type of intervention. The new Local Housing Program plans to accelerate this dynamic, with an objective of more than 200 rehabilitated housing units per year.
The Metropolis and the city of Nice also support elevation projects. More than 500 buildings have been identified as technically exploitable, with an estimated potential of 7,750 housing units, including 3,250 social housing units.
Anthony Borré, First Deputy Mayor of Nice and Vice-President of the Metropolis, today calls on the State to go further: “The State’s financial support must come earlier in the operations so that the financial risk we bear does not cause the proposed projects to fail.”
This support, deemed necessary, would, according to him, strengthen the actions already undertaken on the ground.
