From July 17 to July 21, discover 31 artists on two stages simultaneously. For five evenings, jazz will envelop Nice in its beauty.
If you wish to see a more intimate concert, head to the Théâtre de Verdure. The program features trios, quartets, and instrumentalists. Such as Cuban pianist Roberto Fonseca, bassist Christian McBride, Pierre Marcus Quartet with Baptiste Herbin, Fred Perreard, and Thomas Delor, Youn Sun Nah, Henri Texier, Kamasi Washington, Abdullah Ibrahim accompanied by Terence Blanchard, and the local Spirale Trio.
But to see the large productions, head to the Masséna gardens. The programming is more laid-back, even tangential, thanks to funk, R&B, and blues. Enough to dance the night away! So head to the ticket office set up across from the water mirror of the Promenade du Paillon.
The History of the Nice Jazz Festival
The event is celebrating its 68th anniversary this year, having first taken place in 1948. From its inception, stars have performed on the festival stage, such as Louis Armstrong, Claude Lutter, and Stéphane Grappelli. The success was phenomenal, and audiences come from all over France to listen to the big names in jazz.
Last year, the Prefecture of the Alpes-Maritimes and the City of Nice canceled the festival following the July 14, 2016 attack on the Promenade des Anglais.
