The student surpasses the “Master”

Having left Nice at the age of 10 with a talent we would have liked to claim today, Laurent Marimbert has just released his first album “Quand les cœurs se font légers” (When Hearts Lighten), and for a first attempt, it is a masterstroke.
NP met with him for you.

Nice Première: Laurent, first of all, my sincere congratulations on this wonderful album that is only available on your website, why?

Laurent: Simply because I felt like it.
If I self-produced and sold my album on the site before presenting it to a record company, it’s because I wanted to do it from A to Z.

I was able to surround myself with my musician friends and work under artisan conditions.
A record company offers fewer concessions.

NP: I read in your bio that you started your musical adventures in the south, so would you like to perform on a local stage again and if so, which one?

Yes, of course, I would love to promote this album in front of the Nice audience. I have wonderful memories at the Théâtre de Verdure and the Arènes de Cimiez.
Ideally, one of those two venues would be perfect.

NP: Your professional range goes from producing artists like 2 be 3 who were big at the time to Jennifer who continues. You also signed the soundtrack for Backstage, and you worked for several years with Etienne Roda-Gil. Could you talk about that experience?

Yes, of course, it was Véronique Sanson’s producer who told me that Etienne wanted to meet me, we had an appointment at noon for about an hour at La Coupole and we parted ways at 9 pm.

We wrote together for three years, but unfortunately, his death put an end to that. Nevertheless, these things happen, and we take great care with his children.
Some people are interested and maybe one day it will come out.

NP: Do you have any dates planned?

Not at this time, we are working on assembling a team to be ready in a few weeks. The album has just been released, everything is rushing and moving faster than we expected.

NP: If you were to open for an artist of your choice, who would it be?

It’s quite presumptuous to answer such a question, and I’m not really a fan in that sense. I really like Paul McCartney, but if I had to match this album with an artist, it would be Laurent Voulzy.

NP: Thank you Laurent

Thank you too… “laughs”

All I have left to do is wish you happy holidays as we await Laurent’s live performance for the Nice audience.
