The Student Parliament of Nice organized its first conference dedicated to the role of the Department in public life on Tuesday, March 4. Charles Ange Ginésy, President of the Department of Alpes-Maritimes, responded to questions from about sixty students on the social, environmental, and digital challenges of the territory.

Welcomed at the Faculty of Law and Political Science by Ms. Eva Mouial-Bassilana, Dean of the Faculty, and Ms. Florence Crouzatier-Durand, Professor of Law, Charles Ange Ginésy engaged with the students regarding the missions of the Department. He recalled its role in social action, territorial planning, mobility, and environmental protection.

Questioned about recent crises, he highlighted the impact of Storm Alex and the consequences of climate change on the territory. He also detailed the initiatives of the GREEN Deal to preserve biodiversity and develop renewable energies. Regarding digital matters, he presented the SMART Deal, which makes artificial intelligence a tool for innovation in public services, particularly through the Maison de l’IA (House of AI).

An exchange on the Department’s competencies and projects

The event unfolded in two parts. First, an interview conducted by Maxime Guay, President of the Student Parliament of Nice, and Lyuna Chapelle, Vice-President of the association. Then, a dialogue with the students, who expressed their questions about the department’s future. These were mainly focused on the massive development of AI as well as the broad functioning of this institution.

“In a time when distrust of politics and abstention are increasing, seeing young people get involved to understand institutions, debate, and propose ideas is a tremendous source of hope,” declared Charles Ange Ginésy.

The Student Parliament of Nice, created last November, aims to promote debates and democratic simulations. With nearly 70 members, it seeks to bring young people closer to political institutions and strengthen their involvement in public life.
