This Saturday evening, an exceptional event took place by the sea. The Théâtre de Verdure hosted a party with a Nice flair for the evening of August 15th. Between dance, singing, and jazz, the evening was lively.
The event was organized by the Nice city hall as part of “My Summer in Nice”. Every year, August 15th is a highly celebrated event in the city: commemoration at the port, fireworks… But it also traditionally marks the beginning of La Farandole. A grand folk festival bringing together dance groups from all over the world, it is a much-anticipated event. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, it will not take place this season. To celebrate the Niçoise culture nonetheless, a traditional party was organized at the Théâtre de Verdure. To celebrate the evening properly, many guests were present. The show kicked off with La Ciamada Nissarda, a very old folk dance group. In traditional costumes and to lively rhythms, the dancers took the stage and captivated the audience. The headliner was the famous Nice jazz musician André Ceccarelli, who accompanied Le Corrou de Berra.
Women for the time of a song
The association Les Voix de Diane offers activities related to voice and well-being throughout the year. For this evening, they presented a brand new show centered around the theme of great female singers. Soprano Diane Frémaux, accompanied by musicians Stéphane Eliot and Serge Gallice, performed pieces such as Edith Piaf’s La Vie en Rose, Tina Turner’s Simply the Best, and Joséphine Baker’s J’ai deux amours. Before each performance, a voice-over narrated the life stories of the original artists. To add a touch of originality and engage with the audience, a lyrics booklet was distributed to the spectators. Intermediate pieces were played by the musicians and sung by the audience, giving Diane Frémaux time to change costumes. A show with plenty of power!
