This Monday, September 4th, starting at 9:30 AM, Tourrette-Levens will celebrate the feast of Saint Rosalia
Niece of the King of Sicily, she is believed to have been born in 1130 and retreated at a young age to a cave near Palermo. She reportedly lived there as a recluse, fed by angels who crowned her with white roses until her death in 1160. Forgotten in the Middle Ages, her cult reemerged in the 17th century when her bones were discovered. They were placed in the Cathedral of Palermo while the plague was rampant, and the scourge ceased immediately! This led the cities of Nice and Tourrette-Levens, also afflicted by the disease, to place themselves under the saint’s protection and they obtained part of the relics, promising an annual procession for having been delivered from the plague through the intercession of Saint Rosalia.
The program:
9:30 AM: Grand solemn mass celebrated by Monsignor André Marceau, Bishop of Nice, assisted by Father Alain Kadhi, Canon Patrick Keppel, and the priests of the canton.
10:45 AM: Procession through the village streets with the participation of the Provençal Academy of Cannes.
11:00 AM: Wreath laying at the War Memorial.
Traditionally organized by the Festival Committee in collaboration with the Tourrette-Levens town hall, many festivities complement the program, including a dance meal, shows, activities for children…
