Unemployment within the EU shows signs of stabilization.

In February, the unemployment rate across the entire Union remained at the same level as in January, at 7.5%. The eurozone’s rate, on the other hand, stayed at 8.3% according to Eurostat.

On a year-over-year basis, the unemployment rate increased by one percentage point between February 2020 and 2021, both within the EU (rising from 6.5% to 7.5%) and in the eurozone (rising from 7.3% to 8.3%).

According to the EU’s statistical office, in February, 15.9 million people were unemployed in the EU-27. Among them, 13.5 million resided in the eurozone.

Compared to January of this year, 34,000 people were added to the number of registered unemployed in the EU and 48,000 to those in the eurozone.

Compared to February 2020, there are 1.9 million additional unemployed in the Union and 1.5 million more in the nineteen euro countries.
