On Saturday evening, the Azurean water polo players hosted the Alsatian leaders at the Jean Bouin swimming pool. The match seemed balanced, but ultimately, the visitors’ experience triumphed over the local youth.
Only one defeat in twelve matches and the best defense in the championship. This is the pedigree of Team Strasbourg this season. Samuel Nardon’s men decided not to take this into account. At least, at the beginning of the game…
In the manner of Mathias Bachelier and the captain, Manuel Laversanne, the locals exchanged the ball with ease and therefore created more chances than their opponents in the first quarter. Yet, the score did not favor them (1-2).
The Nice team did not give up. Manuel Laversanne charged again (2-2) and Toma Rodin, alone, was not intimidated by the opposing goalkeeper (3-2). Boris Letica and Strasbourg equalized on a counterattack, provoked after their failed penalty (3-3).
The Olympic team hangs on but then falters
Back in the pool, the two teams observed each other and sought each other out more. Only one goal was scored on each side (4-4).
During the final round, the ONN players could no longer capitalize on any of their numerous opportunities. An opportunity for the Strasbourg team. Their top scorer, David Babic, put the Nice defense to the test and scored twice to give his team the victory (4-7).
“Despite our youthful team, we showed that we could compete with the best,” said the Azurean coach, Samuel Nardon, with satisfaction. “The progress in our game bodes well for the future.”
