During its last city council meeting, the Nice municipality announced the launch of a public consultation to rethink the Masséna pedestrian zone. Residents will be able to express their opinions during meetings and workshops before the project is implemented.
The Nice city council adopted a resolution on Friday, March 28, 2025, marking the launch of a public consultation on the requalification of the Masséna pedestrian zone. This initiative, led by the Métropole Nice Côte d’Azur, aims to adapt this space to the needs of the population.
The city of Nice wants to involve residents in this project. Several tools will be implemented to gather opinions and expectations. A public meeting will be organized, accompanied by participatory workshops and a register accessible to the people of Nice. The observations collected will be integrated into a report that will guide the next steps.
“We will carry out this project once again alongside the people of Nice”
Christian Estrosi, mayor of Nice and president of the Métropole Nice Côte d’Azur, presents this project as a central element of the ongoing urban transformation: “The requalification project of the Masséna pedestrian zone is part of our overall policy of calming and beautification across our entire territory. I am thinking specifically of the delivery of quality developments such as green pathways, Cassini Street, Liberté Street, and the southern part of Gambetta Boulevard.”
The goal is to enhance the attractiveness of Masséna Street, a central hub of life in Nice. Modernized infrastructures should reconcile environmental challenges with the enhancement of heritage.
“We will carry out this project once again alongside the people of Nice, to design the city of tomorrow that will resemble them,” adds the mayor.
This consultation represents the first step. The continuation depends on the contributions of the residents and the directions chosen. The future of Masséna Street will be built with them. The details will be available on the city of Nice’s website in the coming weeks.
