On Thursday, March 31, 2011, a conference on IMAGE RIGHTS AND INTERNET LAW was held at the Le Negresco Hotel, organized by Fenêtre sur Com’. More than a hundred people attended, and the two hours of debate suggest that merely adapting image rights to the internet is no longer sufficient and that specialized internet law is becoming increasingly indispensable.
The internet has become an essential professional domain, yet we know little or very little about its legal and legislative workings. However, we face legal issues every day.
Fenêtre Sur Com’, represented by its President Marie-Chantal Di Martino, chose to invite two professionals in Image Rights and Internet Law, Maître Isabelle Filipetti, a lawyer at the Grasse Bar specializing in Image Rights and Internet Law, and Martine Clémente, regional delegate of the INPI (National Institute of Industrial Property), who discussed Trademark Law. They were joined by three field experts: Patrick Gauthey, a professional photographer and reporter, Michel Bounous, director of Baie des Anges Editions, and Giovanni Gulino, marketing director of the Le Negresco Hotel.
The Internet is not a lawless zone
“The Internet is not lacking legal framework!” This was the key message conveyed by Maître Filipetti and Martine Clémente from the INPI throughout their presentations. They effectively addressed the attendees’ inquiries regarding their rights and responsibilities concerning the protection of their works. The exchange of experiences among the speakers allowed concrete cases of disputes to be explored, echoing specific legal precedents.
The President thanked the speakers as well as Claire and Sarah, the mediators and report writers. A big thank you also to Jean-Denis Paris from the Wacan agency for this great photo.
